A Case of Removal of Oropharyngeal Cancer through Median Mandibulotomy Approach

Abstract
Cancer of the oropharynx appears to be increasing in frequency, and several factors, such as longer life expectancy and the increasing use of tobacco and alcohol at an early stage, may be contributing to this rise.
In the surgical treatment of oropharyngeal cancer, the increasing proportion of favorable lesion has provided more opportunity for operations that minimize cosmetic and functional disability and reduce the need for reconstruction.
Adequate exposure of oropharyngeal cancer for surgical resection is very important for precise tumor ablation. The use of mandibulotomy, one of many approaches for surgical resection of oropharyngeal tumor, has increased recently.
This approach is a valuable technique, allowing preservation of the mandibular arch while providing excellent visualization and access to the oral cavity and oropharynx.
The authors have recently experienced a case of soft palate squamous cell carcinoma involving left tonsil in 70 years old male patient who had treated by resection of the tumor through median mandibulotomy approach with good result.
So, we report this case with review of the literature.
